Life

In 2005

When was the first time you really felt like a grown up (if ever)?

I was held in double jeopardy by the court. I had served 23 days on a bench warrant and on my release day they re charged me with the same crime and held me. I had to bail out and was assigned a public defender who did absolutely nothing. I fought those charges myself and 16 months later walked out of that court room with a dismissed case and a standing ovation. I was grown.

I am adding this for whoever may find themselves in this position. If ever you find yourself in double jeopardy in the USA/California, there is a plea for that. 4 pleas are acceptable in a criminal case: guilty, not guilty, no contest, & once convicted or acquitted. Ask to address the court yourself and change your plea to the last one. The state will be forced to give you 2 trials and they don’t want to give you one. Case dismissed!

One more thing! Don’t wave any time! You want your speedy trial ALWAYS!
